Retro games were made to be played side by side. Co-op has been one of our longest-running projects, and today it's ready for you to try.
How It Works
Open any game in your library and hit Play with Friends. You get a room code and an invite link. Send it to a friend; they open it, sign in, and pick Join as player or Just watch. That's it.
The game keeps running on your computer. Koin streams the picture and sound to your friends and sends their button presses back, so they don't need the ROM, an emulator, or anything installed.
One Link to Join
Friends join from their browser with a free account. If they reload or drop out, they get their seat back.
Up to 4 Players
NES (Four Score games), SNES (Multitap games), N64 and arcade take up to four players. Other consoles take two.
Spectators Welcome
Up to three friends can watch along. Handheld games (Game Boy, GBA, Game Gear and friends) were single-player, so there friends can watch but not play.
Peer to Peer
Whenever networks allow, gameplay goes straight between your browsers; our servers just introduce you to each other.
It's a Beta
Co-op works, and we've had a lot of fun with it, but you'll find rough edges. A few things to know:
- Hosting works on desktop browsers. Chrome is the best-tested so far.
- Guests can join from a laptop or a phone; phones get an on-screen controller.
- Keep the host's tab in front: browsers slow down background tabs, and the game slows for everyone.
- Lag depends on the distance between players. Friends nearby will feel it least.
Hosting comes with the 16-Bit and Arcade plans. Joining is free on every plan, so your friends never need to pay to play with you.
