The open-world nature of The Legend of Zelda required a soundtrack that could loop indefinitely without causing listener fatigue. Koji Kondo’s solution was a heroic march that has arguably become the most recognizable leitmotif in gaming history. The Famicom Disk System (FDS) version had an extra wavetable sound channel, but the NES version remains the standard for nostalgia.
